When Matías (wide-eyed Sebastián Molinaro) is stranded at a birthday party by his mother Laura (Julieta Díaz) another mother takes him home to the rundown projects on the outskirts of Buenos Aires where he lives. There, they find Laura black and blue after yet another beating from her husband, Fabián. The weeks that follow involve court-cases and shelters which prove too much for Laura to handle. What follows is a journey loaded with increasing tension and suspense of whether the twosome, perpetually in movement from city to country, will get caught by Fabián or successfully escape his clutches.
Díaz and Molinaro give wholly credible, moving performances as a loving mother uprooted by extraordinarily painful circumstances and a child who is still too young to fully comprehend what’s going on, but old enough to recognize that something has been irretrievably shattered.
